Gary Vaynerchuk's book Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook (2013) argues that marketers and salespeople ruin their relationships by asking for the sale too quickly. His alternative: three 'jabs' (genuine value, no ask) for every 'right hook' (the ask). In sales terms: three messages where you help, educate, or entertain the prospect with no commercial intent, then one message where you make the offer. The 3:1 ratio creates permission. The prospect feels like you've been useful to them, so when you finally pitch, they lean in rather than resist.
